Dr. Avińa is a respected community leader, volunteer, education advocate, former college professor, nonprofit executive, and the parent of two young children. Alexis has spent her career focused on improving access, quality, and equity to educational, health and human services for socioeconomically, ethnically, and geopolitically underserved populations through strategy and evaluation. The populations she is most passionate about serving are people of color, women, disabled — those who are voiceless and at the highest risk of negative outcomes. Dr. Aviña’s public health experiences span non-profit, research, teaching, hospital community and government settings.

Chula Vista Roots
Dr. Alexis Aviña, EdD is a second-generation Chula Vista resident and is now living with her partner and children in Chula Vista. As a child, Alexis attended the Chula Vista Elementary School District, finishing off the 6th grade at Clear View Elementary. Next, she attended Bonita Vista Middle and earned her diploma from Bonita Vista High School. Her upbringing in a civically-involved family instilled in her the values of following her dreams and making a positive community impact.
